About

I started this blog after realizing that the work done at a museum is very much hidden from the public it serves. The many components that make up a museum and keep it running. Here, I hope to open the doors to a behind-the-scenes first glance at what really goes on just beyond the gallery walls. My venue is the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, a gem in the heart of Greater Philadelphia. Penn Museum’s extensive history in both the fields of Archaeology and Anthropology has allowed them to become major contributors in the field of cultural studies. In recent months, the Museum has been gaining momentum in its massive overhaul and reinvention of the floor plan and their model of information sharing. Needless to say, this is an exciting time behind closed doors.

Now a little bit about the author. I am a Designer, Thinker, but most of all, always a Student. My name is Timothy Cobb Passarella. I am an artist at heart; my focuses range from photography to blues guitar. I find many outlets for my creativity. I am a Senior at The University of the Arts in the process of completing an Industrial Design degree. Because Industrial Design is closely linked to the fields of Anthropology and Archaeology, my ID background has really helped me fulfill my position at Penn Museum.

I am working within the Digital Media Department which consists of online media creation (like this blog), audio/video editing, museum visitor programs, hearing-impaired video tours and interactive-audio tours; basically, all the really fun things visitors get to interact with beyond the artifacts. I hope to create new outlets for the museum to use in educating, promoting, and improving the visitor experience. I also am working to enhance the already existing programs and concepts utilized by the museum. Through my work with the Media Department and an internship intended to analyze the museum’s efficiency in human experience, I hope to share with you my findings and progress.

Beyond that, I created this blog to share with you the incredible experience of growing from museum visitor to museum resident. What a journey it will be.

More information about my work can be found on my website
and blog.
